Reminder to Parents from the Woodstock/Edinburg Youth Football and Cheerleading League
September 30, 2009

Dear Parents:
As you know our football field is not only used by us but is used by the schools located on the Central campus and various other
sporting organizations. We are getting complaints weekly from W.W. Robinson Elementary Physical Education teachers about how our
parents and children are treating the track, the track and field pits, the parking lot and all surrounding areas. Our coaches are many times
on the field until after dark collecting their equipment or addressing questions and should not have to take time to hunt in the dark for
trash and check to make sure that the surrounding areas were left in the condition they should be.
We are having 3 major complaints:
1. The trash that is being left. If you see it, pick it up even if it isn't yours. Trash does not have the ability to disappear overnight. Bottles
on/around the football field and paper towels near the wash sink are the most common problem. You would not believe the amount of
trash that was left after our recent home game. Candy wrappers, water/soda bottles, uneaten food. We do not have the funds to hire an
outside company to come clean up after a game, so the board members who had been their all day had to spend additional time climbing
under bleachers and walking the grounds picking up trash. The most disgusting was a Wal-Mart bag with a dirty diaper in it found in the
parking area!!
2. The track and field pits. These pits are covered for a reason and children should not be allowed to play on them. After the recent
home game, we had to dig ALL of the weights out of a mud puddle and fix the tarps that cover the pits. Take a minute to think about
how injured a track and field participant would become if rocks or trash were allowed to get into the pit. Also items located at the far
corner near the Central and W.W. Robinson parking lots should not be touched, moved or played on.
3. The track. This track is used by the students of W.W. Robinson frequently. We are having complaints about rocks ON the track.
Think about the children who run on that track and how the rocks could be a major hazard. This can not be tolerated.

We would also like to take this chance to address some other concerns:
-Smoking is prohibited on the ENTIRE school campus, this includes the parking areas. We are finding numerous cigarette butts in the
parking areas. This may or may not be from our parents but it is just a reminder.

-Parents watching practice need to be seated/standing on the outside of the track. This was stated at the beginning of the season and now
has to be enforced due to numerous small children being allowed to run and play where the players are practicing. This is for the safety
of everyone. Remember chairs can not be placed ON the track. If you are walking/running the track please be mindful of your children
and their whereabouts. Thanks.

Please remember the Woodstock/Edinburg Youth Football and Cheerleading League does not own the football field, we rent it.
Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation and the Shenandoah County School Board Office do not HAVE to let us use it. If we
continue the above behavior this might jeopardize our ability to use the facility.
Thank you for your time and immediate cooperation in the matter. We know that not all parents/children are guilty of this behavior and
we send a huge Thank You out to you!!
